Get Ready for the Georgia DDS Knowledge Exam
To earn your Georgia learner’s permit (Class CP), you must pass the written knowledge exam administered by the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS). This test checks your understanding of Georgia traffic laws, driver responsibility, and safe-driving behaviors under the state’s Teen Driver Responsibility Improvement Act (TADRA).
Many new drivers underestimate how detailed the exam can be. This practice test is designed to help you confidently prepare using accurate, Georgia-specific topics you must know to pass.
What the Georgia Permit Test Includes
The Georgia exam is divided into two parts:
1. Road Rules Test (20 questions)
Covers laws about yielding, lane usage, speed control, passing, safe driving distances, and defensive behaviors.
2. Road Signs Test (20 questions)
Evaluates how well you can identify regulatory, warning, and guide signs, along with pavement markings.
You must score 15 out of 20 on each section to pass—failing one section means failing the entire exam.
Topics Covered in This Practice Test
This Georgia practice test includes questions based on:
- Georgia’s Hands-Free Law and distracted driving penalties
- TADRA requirements for teen drivers
- Right-of-way rules at four-way stops, roundabouts, and school zones
- Sharing the road with large trucks and school buses
- Lane control, HOV lane rules, and speed regulations on rural highways
- DUI laws and consequences for minors under Georgia’s zero-tolerance policy
These are the areas where most students struggle.
Tips for Success
- Read scenarios fully—Georgia questions often include details meant to test safe judgment.
- Keep practicing until you consistently reach 90–95% accuracy.
- Review your incorrect answers and revisit the Georgia Driver’s Manual sections related to those topics.
- Make sure you understand why each correct answer is correct. This is key for real-world driving.
After You Finish the Test
We recommend reviewing:
- Your missed questions and the Georgia laws you need to strengthen
- What to bring to the DDS for your permit visit
- How Georgia’s Graduated Licensing Program works (CP → Class D → Class C)
- Parent/guardian safe-driving responsibilities under TADRA
Taking the time now builds your confidence and helps you become a safe Georgia driver from day one.
