Permit Test Key Details
Number of Questions: 50
Correct Answers Needed to Pass: 40
Passing Score: 80%
Minimum Age to Apply: 15 years old
Test Duration: 60 minutes
Documents Needed
- Proof of Identity (original or certified) — e.g. birth certificate, U.S. passport, certificate of naturalization, etc
- Two proofs of Florida residency — e.g. utility bills, lease agreements, insurance documents, school documents, etc.
- Social Security Number or document that shows your SSN (e.g. Social Security card, W-2, pay stub)
- Proof of Driver Ed / Course (for minors) Completion of a Traffic Law & Substance Abuse Education (TLSAE) course OR the newer DETS (driver education traffic safety) course (for changes effective from 2025)
- Parental Consent Form Required if under 18. Must be signed in front of a licensing official or notarized.
- Parent / Guardian Proctoring Form If the permit test is taken online, the parent or guardian must complete a proctoring form (signed or notarized).
- Name Change Documentation (if applicable) If your legal name has changed (marriage, court order, etc.), bring certified records (marriage certificates, court orders)
- Vision & Hearing Test (Typically done at the driver license office / tax collector when applying for the permit.)
What happens if I don’t pass the test?
If you fail, you must wait 1 day before retaking the test
