Prepare for the Missouri DOR Learner Permit Exam

Earning your Missouri learner permit is the first step toward becoming a licensed driver. The Missouri Department of Revenue (DOR) written knowledge exam evaluates your understanding of traffic laws, road signs, and safe-driving practices specific to Missouri’s urban streets, rural highways, and small-town roads.

This practice test is designed to help first-time drivers prepare with confidence by focusing on the topics most commonly tested on the Missouri permit exam.

What the Missouri Permit Test Includes

The Missouri written knowledge test consists of 25 questions, and you must answer at least 20 correctly to pass.

This practice test covers Missouri-specific topics including:

  • Right-of-way rules at intersections and uncontrolled crossings
  • Speed limits for residential areas, highways, and rural roads
  • Traffic signs, signals, and pavement markings used across Missouri
  • School bus laws and student safety rules
  • Lane usage, passing rules, and safe following distances
  • Missouri’s DUI laws and zero-tolerance policy for underage drivers

Understanding these rules is essential for both passing the exam and driving safely.

Tips for Succeeding on the Missouri Knowledge Exam

  • Take your time—Missouri exam questions often test real-world decision-making.
  • Re-take practice tests until you consistently score 90% or better.
  • Pay special attention to road signs and right-of-way rules.
  • Review the Missouri Driver Guide sections tied to any missed questions.

After Completing the Practice Test

Before scheduling your permit appointment, review:

  • Missouri’s Graduated Driver License (GDL) program requirements
  • Required documents for your DOR visit
  • Supervised driving hour expectations
  • Safe-driving tips for highways, rural roads, and construction zones

Preparing thoroughly now increases your chances of passing the Missouri permit test on your first try—and becoming a responsible driver.
