Number of Questions: 25
Correct Answers Needed to Pass: 20
Passing Score: 80%
Minimum Age to Apply: 15 years old
Documents Needed
- Proof of Identity. Birth certificate, U.S. passport, certificate of naturalization
- Proof of Legal Presence / Citizenship. Immigration documents (if non-citizen)
- Proof of Social Security Number. Social Security card, W-2, pay stub, SSA-1099
- Proof of Residency / Address. Utility bill, lease/mortgage statement, school record, bank statement
- Must have a Driving Eligibility Certificate (signed by school) in many cases for minors. The Driving Eligibility Certificate must be obtained no more than 30 days before application.
- Proof of Driver Education / Enrollment. Must have completed an approved driver education course (for under 18) before applying for limited learner’s permit.
- Parental / Guardian Consent. If applicant is under 18, a parent or legal guardian generally must sign
- Fee Payment. The application / permit / licensing fee
- Vision / Eye Exam. In-office vision screening at DMV / licensing office
What happens if I don’t pass the test?
For the license written / knowledge test, applicants may retake after 7 calendar days if they fail
